Board Meeting Minutes

MINUTES – BOARD MEETING September 4, 2007 

The meeting was called to order by John Thompson at 6:35 PM. All Board members were present. A list of other member attendees will be attached to The permanent minutes.

Treasurer’s report: Ray Richardson stated the club has $4,603.12 in the bank Checks were written for $220.24 to Bob Fulton for Powermatic chuck; $150.00 for Martel Tools for club auction, $85.94 for (Robertson) for Martel demo lunches, and Martel Demo $2,700. Income from Saturday club members demo charges was $450.00.

Program Committee: Almeta Robertson. Program is complete though Aug 2008 She will contact Mike Mahoney regarding preferred wood and sizes for Nov. Demo.

John Thompson suggested that we talk up workshops and invite Ark & OKC to the Saturday demos.

Library: Almeta will get out Library cabinet at the next meeting and recruit a volunteer to help.

Jim Orton inquired about a newsletter and suggested the latest DVD’s be listed possibly on the website. Discussion continued regarding newsletter with no resolution.

Discussion regarding July elected VP and it was requested by the president that since the general membership had voted to remove her from office, that the board should reflect the same since she did not meet the by-law requirement for office. It is noted that Ken Hager is the Official Vice-President, having been voted in during the August meeting. It was recommended that a letter be sent to Renee informing that her name had been removed, stating that according to club bylaws that she did not meet the Criteria for a club officer. The President wills her a send a letter, stating the reason she was removed from office.

Workshop Oversight and Organization Committee: Need some one to chair committee and set up chairs, Lathe &etc for demo’s and regular Meetings. Jim Vander Lind suggested that the membership be approached for a chairperson, and other volunteers to assist with set up It was suggested that we run DVD’s of incoming Master Turner before meeting and during the break. Need some one to coordinate this. Will ask at the general membership For volunteers.

Request was also made for help setting up Audio Video and other necessary equipment for guest demonstrators.

Fundraising Committee: Following a lengthy discussion some highlights are what to do about donations to various organizations should we take a percentage of their funds, possible grants, gifts and a specific club fundraiser. Bill Evans mentioned that he is friends with a professional person that is interested in promoting the club. The board recommended that he invite this person to the next board meeting. Possible Bill Evans will work on the fundraising committee. Bill Evans suggested that an exploratory committee be started to determine a goal for this committee.

Ken Hager did a recent study and determined that the club members donate turnings valued at $20,000 a year to other organizations.

Planning Committee: Chair Maurice Clyma. Written report attached to permanent minutes. Ken Hager, Jim Vander Lind have volunteered to work on this committee and it will now be called PERMANENT FACILITY COMMITTEE. Following a lengthy discussion, Maurice states that the committee will approach the study with a determined focus on what it will take for the club to own our own facility. And also identify any organizations interested in turned art. He has a list of 40 organizations that he can contact. Maurice states they possible will know with in the next year if this plan will be successful. They will develop a plan to accomplish the goal of a permanent facility. Ken Hager made the motion that the club establishes a restricted building fund. The motion was seconded and following discussion the motion carried. It was noted that the next $500.00 from Exxon Mobil will be designated for that fund. Members will be asked if they want to contribute to that fund.

Pod Rent: Guy Timmons has purchased a 40 foot pod and placed it at Timco Warehouse. A motion was made by Almeta Robertson that the club pay $100 monthly rent to Timco. The motion was seconded and the motion carried. It was noted that all the club equipment is now stored in that pod.

Broken Bow Turnoff: Bill Evans is representing the club and he will take the club Powermatic. It was noted that Stan Townsend has designed a method to move the lathes more easily. Bob Fulton will be going down to help.

Mike Mitchell will be representing the club at the State Fair on Oct 6th and will pass around a sign up sheet for volunteers to help in the booth.

Glue Sales: discussion as to continued sales, but no resolution.

Membership Rosters: John Thompson requested that current roster be handed out at the next meeting so membership could check for corrections. Ray will make copies to hand out

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM by President John Thompson.

Planning Committee:

Maurice Clyma reported on visits with the committee to Habitat for Humanity and it was deemed inadequate at this time.

Mention was made that Guy Timmons had offered Timco (warehouse space) as a possibility

Waterworks still a possibility and a recommendation was made for the club Board to write a letter to the Mayor and the Board of directors of Waterworks regarding our need for a meeting space to include storage.

Fulton School report still pending, and the Food Bank is a no.

A member’s church was offered but no storage available.

After much discussion Jim Vander Lind made the motion to accept Guy Timmons proposal to use TIMCO warehouse for meetings and at the same time continue to pursue other options. Motion seconded followed by discussion and the motion carried.

Discussion concerning storage of club property (facility rent currently $61 monthly) followed and a motion was made by Oren Zehner to give board approval to purchase a pod to be placed at TIMCO. Motion seconded and following discussion carried.

Workday:

Friday to prepare for Martel Demo and workshop. Volunteers to meet and move equipment to Timmons warehouse on Friday at 2:30 pm.

Guy Timmons mentioned that the new Powermatic is lacking a chuck, live center and would be easier to handle with wheels.

Bob Galloway made the motion for club to purchase oneway Strong hold chuck, live center, tool box and wheels. The motion was seconded and following discussion the motion carried. Bob Fulton volunteered to purchase the equipment to be available for use this weekend.

It was noted that the club has 5 lathes (includes 2 mini’s).

Discussion pertaining to charge of $15 for members and $25 for non-members with lunch of 6” sub or salad provided. Drinks and water will be provided.

Cookout to be held for Hands-on workshop on Tuesday evening. Robertson’s will provide and cook hamburgers and hot dogs and members will be asked to bring other accoutrements.

Website: After much discussion Pete Black volunteered to take on the responsibility. Arrangements will be made for him to meet with Tim Yoder to get pass word changed.

Forest Heritage Center: Mike Mitchell met with Doug Zook and reported that each turner will win a prize at the 2 ½ day turn off. Also mentioned that turning would be outside and the club will supply a canopy.

Mike Mitchell turned in 21 pieces for display and or possible sale.

Bill Evans needs Bowl steady, and someone to sweep up. Bob Fulton will help with bowl steady and check out the Oneway for possible use.

New Business:

Guy Timmons suggested that club needs to figure out a way to raise funds for the club. (Possible club show or get charity to put on a show for the club.)

1.    Maurice Clyma of the Planning Committee reported that nothing definitive, but still searching for new location. Exploring all possibilities and welcomes and suggestions. Billie Jean Davis suggested that we contact Gary Castill with Habitat for Humanity, they have a large shop. Jim Vanderlind is friends with Gary and he will contact him. Rozetta Howard & Bob Hawks will also contact the food bank regarding space

New Business:

1.    Bob Galloway reported on the Wonderful World of Woods July 13-14. Set-up is this Thursday, July 12 4:00 – 6:00 pm. Bob reported he needs judges Friday morning 9:15 am to approx 10:30 am to judge woodturnings. Jim Vanderlind & John Thompson volunteered to be judges and Billie Jean Davis volunteered to accept the items.

2.   Motion made and approved to propose the change to remove from the by-laws Vice President/President elect and to read Vice President. Proposal will be presented to general membership at the July 17 regular club meeting

3.    Motion made and passed for funds to be allocated for 3 months rental of storage facility, not to exceed $300.00 for the 3 month period to store the club equipment. Equipment scheduled to be removed from Tulsa Tech Saturday, July 28, 10:00 am

New Business:

1 The club has been advised that the space we are currently using will no longer be available for our Meetings, as the space is needed for additional equipment by the school. The planning committee will be looking into several options for a meeting space, in addition to storage for club equipment.

2 Bill Evans has been selected to participate in the turn-off competition at Bevers Bend this coming September, in addition the club members will be asked to send 15 to 20 pieces for the gallery show.

3 Finance committee has completed their cost analysis of expenses for club demos. A recommendation was made and approved by the Board to charge a fee of $15.00 for members and $25.00 for non-members for Saturday Demo’s, the cost will include a box lunch.

4 A survey will be presented to the club during the June meeting, the survey was prepared by Larry Elizondo and the finance committee.

1 Mike Mitchell was approached by the Tulsa State Fair about having a club booth to Demo on Saturday, October 6, 2007. There would be no charge for the booth and we would be able to take Donations for items made there and all proceeds would go to the club. Information table, fair passes, Parking for two vehicles, unloading permits and chairs provided for audience would be included with booth

2 Club has received another $500.00 grant from Exxon Mobile

3 Motion made and passed that the club will purchase a new Powermatic 3520-B. Guy Timmons will Store the lathe at his house for use visiting demonstrators. Cost of the lathe will be approximately $2400.00

Old Business:

  1. Maurice Clyma of the Planning Committee reported no news from the Waterworks on possible venue for club meetings. Maurice also reported that he was going to look at the Water Treatment Plant at Mohawk, they have a public use room with storage. Ron Fleming contacting mayor to inquire about any space available for our club to meet.
  2. Bob Hawks Chair for Empty Bowl - If your bowls are finished bring to March meeting. If your not finished you have until April 1 to get them to Bob.
  3. John Thompson - reported juried art show at Riverwalk April 28- Suggested that we do the show as a club to raise money for club. Will be discussed in detail at the March 20th club meeting.
  4. Bob Fulton suggested- July 13 & 14 -Wonderful World of Woods - Stan Townsend will give details at the March 20th club meeting

New Business:

  1. Mike Mitchell received club invitation for from Forest Heritage Center, Broken Bow, Oklahoma competition / show September 7-9, 2007. $1,000 1st place, $500 2nd place, $250 3rd place, $150 viewers choice. If we choose to participate must have interested applicants resume given to Mike Mitchell by March 20, regular club meeting. Applications must be submitted to Forest Heritage Center by April 2, 2007. Competition will be turners choice. Contact Mike Mitchell for more details if you are interested.
  2. Library Committee has received Tim Yoders DVD's
  3. Website: The card reader from the camera with the pictures from the February meeting has been damaged and Bob Galloway & Brad Glock are working to try to recover the pictures, also working to correct any problems with the website and get the information updated

Old Business: 

Maurice Clyma of the Planning Committee reported that the Waterworks was satisfied with the Q & A presented to the Board of Advisors on how we proposed to use the space. At present Waterworks unable to commit to time frame on obtaining the space. Planning Committee will keep pursing this location

New Business:

Bob Hawks Chair for Empty Bowl introduced Barbie Raney Event Manager of the Oklahoma Food Bank (empty bowl) and Johnna Thurston Empty Bowls will be held at the Renaissance Hotel - April 17, 2007. Requests for bowl donations. Barbie suggested we limit the number of pieces to drive the price up, in past we have donated so much that it has driven the price down, 2006 we donated 32 pieces. Jay Litchfield will be the live auctioneer this year. Decisions made: Limit 1 piece per turner and jury top pieces submitted for live auction and set minimum bid appropriately with quality of bowl, with the remaining items to be sold in silent auction. Request 3 volunteers for jury from our Woodturners Club to set pricing and decide what turnings will be presented for live auction and silent auction. Volunteers set - Rozetta Howard, Mike Mitchell & Jim Vanderlind will work with Bob Hawks for 2007 to jury and coordinate. Bowls will be collected by April 1, 2007

Guy Timmons Program Committee opened discussion regarding rates for guest turners. Guest turner rates have gone up and in order to get quality turners for demonstration, prices will be higher and consideration needs to be given on how the club can offset the costs.

Almeta Robertson of the Library Committee presented for review & purchase consideration the 2006 SWAT DVD's - 28 DVD's at $70.00 decision to be given after DVD's have been reviewed

1. Ken Hager or the Planning Committee reported he will set-up a meeting with the B.A. TTC after spring break and will set up a site visit at that time.

2. SWAT Collaborate Challenge September - Piece must fit in a 14 x 14 x 14 space and have a minimum of 5 club members participate in the turning of the piece. The question was raised by Bob Galloway, do we want to participate in this club challenge. It was decided that more discussion was needed to determine if there was enough interest among the club membership.

New Business:

1. Bob Galloway welcomed our two newest At Large Board Members John Thompson and Marc Combs who were voted in at the regular club meeting on February 21, 2006.

2. Motion made and passed that Bob Galloway would be reimbursed for expenses for materials he purchased to build a wood hoist for the Broken Bow event.

3. Mike Mitchell said he had members suggest that rather than cater the picnic that we grill hamburgers and hot dogs. Mike volunteered to do all the grilling. The club would provide drinks and paper / plastic ware and each club member would be asked to bring a dish. Sign up sheet will be passed around during the March 21 club meeting.

4. Motion was made and tabled for further discussion to purchase tapes from Woodturning with Tim Yoder. There are a series of 18 tapes. Ray Richardson will talk to Tim regarding cost and possible donation of tapes from Rogers State University.

5. Tim Yoder, Larry Elizondo and Oren Zehner have researched a lighting system for the One-Way. The estimate on cost is approximately $350.00 plus shipping. The upright would include 2 arms with 2 lights on one arm and  two cameras on the second arm. To be discussed more in depth in future meetings

1. Planning committee reported that there were no new updates for the future meeting location and we will continue to meet at TTC until advised otherwise. 

2.    Mike Mitchell reviewed draft changes of the Bylaws with everyone present

1.    Marc Schreiber to recommend budget for Library Improvements 

2.    John Thompson recommended that all the Library tapes be converted to DVD and suggestions were made that tapes not being utilized be rotated out. 

3. Decision was made to apply for $1,000 AAW grant to upgrade the club library to digital.  Grant application due by January 15, 2006.  Tim Yoder and Marc Schreiber fill out application 

4. Tim Yoder submitted proposal for the creation of deductible donation categories with different levels of sponsorship for donors.   

5. Motion was made and passed that Tim Yoder will tweak the proposal for sponsorship categories and have board review for adoption. 

6. Bob Galloway reported he attended the OKC club meeting where Alan Lacer spoke on what makes a good and bad club.  Bob reported that Alan gave NEOWTA a high rating.

1. Decision was made to use the clubs One Way 1224 for the November program schedule forr  anyone needing to set-up to demo any gadgets, jigs or fixtures  

  The dinner will be pot luck, Mike Mitchell will be bringing a turkey and all members are requested to bring a dish, (i.e. vegetable, desert, chips, etc.).  The club will provide the drinks, plates, cups, utensils and napkins.  There will be display tables set up and everyone is encouraged to bring their turnings to show them off.   

3. Ken Hager &;  John Thompson of the planning committee reported that there were no new updates for the future meeting location 

New Business: 

1. There will be no board meeting or monthly club meeting in December

  Ken Hager will check with Sky Line East to secure library for board meetings for 2006 

3. Mike Mitchell presented a draft copy of the updated club by-laws for review..   

4. Motion presented for sequence of events for by-laws and acceptance.  Prior to December 10 Tim Yoder will make available copy of by-law draft to the general membership by electronic email or U.S. mail.  Suggested changes are to be submitted prior to December 10, 2005.  

The suggested changes and previously distributed revised bylaws will be presented to the board at the January 3, 2006 board meeting. All interested members should plan on attending the board meeting for final input. 

The board will vote to accept or reject the suggested changes to the revised bylaws. Then the board will vote to accept or reject the new bylaws.  At the member's meeting January 17,2006 the membership will vote to accept or reject the board's recommendation.

3..  Forest Heritage Center at Beaver's Bend State Park has committed to our club to have an all club show in the spring of 2006.  They would like between 50 and 80 pieces depending on sizes.  The exhibit will run from March 5th to  May 5th.  Bob Hawks will provide more information at the coming meetings.

1.   Minutes from August 2, 2005 board meeting were amended to read that a motion was not passed but tabled for future discussion on the Saturday demonstration fees   

2.   Discussion was re-opened on the Saturday demonstration fees and a motion was made and passed that  There would be no charge to members, their guests and students.  Any other person who did not fall into this category would be charged the current annual membership fee and have full privileges of membership 

3.    Marc Schreiber - Library Committee, reported that he is still working on the clubs video & DVD inventory     

4.   Bob Galloway - President, reported that the club has received the following new equipment:

55.    Guy Timmons will get the David Ellsworth agenda and will advise what supplies participants will need to bring for the clinics scheduled on October 6, 7,  9, 2005     

New Business: 

1. Discussion was opened as to where to hold the David Ellsworth demonstration, Saturday, October 8, 2005.  It was decided that the Board Members would make this decision 

2. Marc Schreiber volunteered to be Club Librarian.  He will do an inventory of the club's current video's and will make recommendations back to the board on video's / DVD's  to update the library.  

  Discussions were opened - Do we want to participate.  Person or Person's to design turning.  Who will coordinate project.  Decision was made to continue discussions at a later date

 4. Club SWAT representative, Larry Elizondo resigns and Wayne Furr has been appointed.  SWAT assistance is needed with the Sales Booth as the 2005 registrations are down from last year. 

5. Guy Timmons reported Segmented Turning was high on the survey list of club members and that he has been in contact with Curt Theobald for a possible 1-2 day demonstration on Segmented Turning. 

It was decided to poll the club members at regular scheduled meeting to determine if there would be enough interestt 

6.    Bob Galloway - President opened discussions to changing monthly club meetings to Saturday.  Decision made to pole all club members 

7.    Decision was made that the club Christmas party would be Saturday, December 3, 2005.  Renee Thompson volunteered to chair the committee again this year.

1. Guy Timmons requests that if you are planning on attending the David Ellsworth demo in October a deposit of $60.00 will be due at the August 16 club meeting. 

2. Facilities committee members Maurice Clyma and Tim Yoder conducted a site tour of the Calvary Tabernacle Church located at 63rd street and 49th West Avenue. Maurice presented logistics pro's and con's on moving the monthly club meetings to this new venue. 

3. Facilities committee member Ken Hager advised that the TTC Career Services Center decision makers would not be available until the week of August 8. Ken will set up a meeting with them to continue discussions on holding the monthly club meetings in this location.

New Business:

1. A motion was made and passed for ratification to allow Non Board Members who are present at board meetings to now vote on motions. Those members will vote as a group with the majority vote representing one vote.  The Board Members will vote second and the majority vote passes the motion. This not only allows input from the members at-large, but it provides an important tiebreaking vote for the meetings.

2. A motion was made and passed to add a committee to review bylaws for changes. Motion also passed that Mike Mitchell would chair this committee with the assistance of Bob Fulton and Joe Traynham.

3. A motion was made and passed that the club will purchase the following additional equipment:
(1) Oneway - 1224 Lathe - $1596.00 + shipping (Oneway is offering $200.00 off shipping)
(1) Complete Wolverine grinding jig setup from Oneway - $124.95
(1) 8" grinder from Woodcraft - approximately $85.00


4. A. motion was made and passed - three DVD's will be purchased to add to the club library from the AAW Symposium

5. On August 1, 2005 the Committee on Charging Members for Saturday Demonstrations met to discuss the issue of charging members and guests for the all day demonstrations by the celebrity woodturners. It was the unanimous recommendation from the committee that the club policy be changed to allow NEOWTA members, guests and students (high school age or younger) to attend the all day demonstrations without charge. Members of other woodturning clubs would be charged an amount equal to the NEOWTA yearly dues. This would also make them members in the NEOWTA club and access to all benefits of membership. A motion was made to accept the Committee's recommendation and passed.

6. Marc Schreiber volunteered to be Club Librarian. He will do an inventory of the club's current video's and will make recommendations back to the board on video's / DVD's to update the library. 

7. Stan Townsend reported that the wood carvers netted $990.00 from the Wonderful World of Woods show July 8 - 9, 2005

  3. Bob Galloway made a motion to allow the use of the mini lathes by the people who are storing them.  The motion was approved.

3. Tim Yoder looked at the building space, David Sansing offer for club use, he recommended that the club take a look at it as a possible meeting site.

1. Bob Fulton, Lyle Dragoo, Almeta Robertson and James Johnson recently gave a 2-hour demonstration to about 35 students a Calera Middle School in Calera, OK. 
2. Bob Fulton, Bob Hawks, John Thompson, Bill Evans, Ken Hager and Larry Anderson were the instructors for the last Woodcraft beginners turning class. It was reported that all had a great time. The next class is set for May 24th; contact Bob Fulton if you are interested in the class. 
3. Bob Galloway reported that donations are needed for the Blue Dome Festival; please bring them to the May meeting. 
4. Ray Jones is asking for the donation of turned items for the Charity walk-a-thon, for more information contact Ray Jones. Items are due by May 1st.

OLD BUSINESS: 

1.        Our membership now stands at 93 members.

2.        Bob Hawks reported that the club’s participation in the Open Bowl Auction for the Tulsa food bank raised a total of $5,375.00.

3.        Ken Hager has not received any addition information on the 501C3 filing as of yet.

4.        Larry Elizondo was notified that the club would chair the Learn to Turn Committee, during the 2005 AAW Symposium in Kansas City.  The Symposium dates are July 22nd, 23rd, and 24th.

5.        More information about the Christmas party will be presented at the November Membership meeting.

  3. The feature event will be an all day clinic presented by John Jordan, it will begin at 8 am and run through the afternoon, with a break for lunch.  The Farm has several places to eat.  Remember to bring a chair, please NO lounge chairs we are limited on space.

OLD BUSINESS:

1.        Our membership now stands at 91 members.

2.        Cherry Brook Artz Festival:  Bob Hawks reported sales of $125.00 from donated items.

3.         John Jordan’s clinic dates are set for October 21st and 22nd, (Thursday and Friday) Club demo on Saturday the 23rd. and another clinic day on Sunday the 24th. The clinic will begin at 8am so come a little early.   There are a few openings for the all day clinic, if you are interested in this clinic, please contact Larry Elizondo or Guy Timmons. 

4.        Ken Hager has received on Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the IRS and continues to work on the 501C3 project.

5.        Bob Fulton and company reported a good turnout at the beginner’s woodturning clinic held at Woodcraft on September 28th.  A repeat of the clinic is being planned for early 2005.

6.        Christmas Party:  Renee Thompson reported that she would send a form via email to all members to RSVP via the Internet.  The woodworkers have been invited to attend.

NEW BUSINESS

1.        Ron Fleming will be asked to design a club logo.  If you have any ideas for a logo, please contact Lyle Dragoo.

2.        Several members reported having a great time at the SWAT symposium in Temple Texas, and recommended next year’s program.

3.        Joe Traynham advised that a wood wholesaler would be in the parking lot selling wood during the John Jordan Demo on Saturday, Oct 23rd.

4.        The club has received a list of committees for the AAW Symposium in July 2005.   The symposium will be held in Overland Park, Kansas.  The club has selected to chair the Learn To Turn Committee.  We can also provide assistance to the other committees.  Larry Elizondo will be providing more information on this event.

3.     As a reminder, your bowls for the Open Bowl Auction should be ready by the membership meeting in September.

NEW BUSINESS

1.     The club has purchased a Nova 3000 lathe and stand for Bud Lewis.

2.     Bob Fulton is talking with Woodcraft to provide 6 lathes for new turners to use on the fourth Tuesday, September 28th, from 1 to 7pm.  If you signed up for this workshop and have not been contacted by Bob please give him a call.

3.     Ken Hager is proceeding with the 501 C 3 form for IRS Tax Exemptions status for the club; he is ready to submit the first round of paperwork.

4.     A motion was made and passed to have the Christmas party on December 11th, from 6:30 to 9:00 pm at the Career Services Center At the Lemley Campus, 3420 S Memorial.  A suggestion was made to have each member attending bring a new unwrap toy to be donated to Toys for Tots campaign.  More information and a sign up sheet will be available during the coming membership meetings.

5.     Tulsa State Fair.  The application deadline for wood turned items to be entered into the fair has been extended.  If you are interested please contact Georgette in Creative Arts at 744-1113.

4.     The Blue Dome Art Festival was an unqualified success.   Bob Hawks and company brought in $805.00 from the sale of donated items; we thank all those who donated items on such a short notice.

5.     The annual picnic was a big success, the food was great and the company was even better.  Out of the 91 people who sign up, we had 72 show up.

6.     The English turner David Reeks, has not yet confirmed a date for July, we should have more information by the regular membership meeting.

7.      As a reminder, nomination for club officers will remain open until the membership meeting in July.

8.     Bob Hawks will present a seminar on how to photograph your woodturnings to the club in Fayetteville, Ark on the 19th of June, check with Bob about the time and location if you are interest in attending.

NEW BUSINESS

1.     Bob Hawks made a motion to have the club participate in the Cherry Brook Artz Festival, Saturday the 25th of September.  If accepted, we will ask for your participation and donated items.  Motion passed.

2.     Woodworkers Catalog has donated a $15.00 monthly gift certificate to the club.

3.      A motion was made to hold the annual picnic in May 2005 at Haikey Creek Park and have the affair catered.  Motion was passed.

4.     A motion was made to charge $5.00 per adult not to exceed $10.00 per family for next years catered picnic, fees will be payable at the meeting prior to the picnic.  The motion passed.

3.     Bob Galloway gave an update on the Wonderful World of Woods event in July, more information to follow.

4.     The annual picnic is on the 22nd of May, at Haikey Creek Park at 4:30pm rain or shine.  We have three covered spaces.  If you miss the April meeting and wish to attend the picnic, please contact Almeta Robertson.   P.S. 5.     The Blue Dome Art Festival will be held on May 14th, 15th, and 16th.  We be setting up on Friday, the festival will open that evening, and we will be doing woodturning demo’s Saturday and Sunday from 8:30am to 5:30pm.  We will need some volunteers and we are asking for some donated items to be sold as a club fundraiser, the items should be quality pieces, those unsold items can be returned to the donator.  If you can spare the time to help or have an item to donate, please contact Bob Hawks at 743-4901.

6.     Bob Fulton will be doing a presentation at the city hall in Gore, Saturday, May 8th.  If you are interested in assisting Bob with these presentations, please contact him.  This is a club function your support will be greatly appreciated.

NEW BUSINESS

1.     May’s general membership meeting, May 18th, the nominating committee will present a slate of candidates for next years officers. A motion was made and passed that nomination from the floor will remain open until the July meeting; all nominees must agree to serve.

2.     The April tickets will be combined with the May tickets with additional prizes for the drawing. 

3.     Tim Yoder discussed the pros and cons of placing ads our website.  Member’s ads are free, limit of 75 words and images, no more than five (5) ads.  Non-members will be asked to pay a fee or join the club.  Commercial ads or sponsors fees based on page location.  Additional discussion will be held during the June Board meeting.

4.        Maurice has completed the detailed drawing and materials list for the new storage unit, Oren Zehner has donated the use of the school shop to complete construction.  We will be asking for volunteers for a Saturday build, additional information will be posted to the web site or you can contact Mike Mitchell.

1.        We need someone to volunteer to head the Merchandise Committee, to sell the sandpaper, green wood, etc.

2.        Tim Yoder will be calling the KC Club to offer our club’s assistance during the National Symposium in 2005.  Tim will provide additional information in the future.

3.        Election of Officers: An election committee has been appointed for next year’s selection, they are Jack Cress, Bob Hawks, and Larry Elizondo.

4.        A motion was made and carried, that the club will not be participate in this year’s Tulsa State Fair or Octoberfest.

BOARD MEETING: February 3rd, 2004

THIS MONTH’S PROGRAM: 

This month’s meeting will have three components;

1.        A short business meeting.

2.        A Show and Tell for members.

3.        The featured event will be wood harvesting and utilization and will feature Wayne Furr.  The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m., come early and get the best seat. 

OLD BUSINESS:

1.        Allen Lacer will be conducting three all-day clinics, March 3rd, 4th, and 5th.  The clinic will cost $65.00 per person; there is limited space available.  If you are interested, contact Oren Zehner by phone or e-mail.  Allen will also conduct an all-day clinic on Saturday the 6th, at Larry Elizondo’s business location.  Handyman Connection, 5401 So. Sheridan, Suite 301, Tulsa.

2.        Wonderful World of Woods Show: Bob Galloway informed the board that the cost of the show would be $40.00 for a selling booth, if we do not sell the booth would be free.  I was suggested that we donate our supply of club items to the show.  It was also suggested that we do a turning demonstration during the event.

NEW BUSINESS:

1.        A motion was made by Lyle Dragoo and Larry Elizondo to hold future membership meetings, board meeting and clinics at Larry’s place of business.  The location is on the south side of the Farm Shopping Center, that in addition to a good location, it offers a well-lit parking area.  The cost to the club will be the same as Ben Hill.  The first meeting at this location will be March 6th, Allen Lacer Demonstration and March 16th membership meeting.  Additional information will be provided at the February 17th membership meeting.  The Board passed this motion.

2.        Bob Hawks contacted the Tulsa Food Bank’s Open Bowl Charity Auction; they expressed an interest in having our club participate in their Mid-October Auction.  It is our goal to have bowls juried down to the top 25; the turners will be invited to the Mid-October diner and auction.  Bob will make additional information available at the regular membership meeting.  Lets have a great turn out and make the judge’s job difficult.  The board approved the motion.

3.        A motion was made to have Bob Galloway the Corporate State Agent; the board approved the motion.

4.        A motion was made to purchase two wireless video transmitters at a cost of $80.00 each, Tim Yoder will make the purchase: the board approved the motion.

5.        A motion was made and approved to purchase 2 new 32” TV's from Sam’s.

6.        A committee was formed to review the board voting procedures and report at the next board meeting.

THIS MONTH’S PROGRAM:

The January 10th, meeting will be an all day clinic given by Trent Bosh.

OLD BUSINESS:

  1. Our lathe tools are being updated by Jim Hartsell, who will be color coding them to match the lathes, Jim stated that he needed $300.00 to complete the update.  A motion was made and approved by the board.

  2. The Trent Bosh presentation will be held Saturday, Jan. 10th, this will replace the regular scheduled meeting.

  3. Allen Lacer will be presenting an all day clinic the first weekend in March; more information will be presented during the February meeting.  Allen Lacer will also be presenting some one-day classes, information will be provided at the February meeting.

NEW BUSINESS:

  1. The February 17th meeting will feature Wayne Furr; he will give a presentation on wood harvesting and utilization.  Please come early for the best seat.

  2. A motion was made and passed to attend the organizational meetings for the Wonderful World of Woods show, on July 9th & 10th, at the fairgrounds.  This year’s show will not be in conjunction with the Affairs of the Heart show.  Those attending the meeting will be Jack Cress, Ray Jones, Bob Galloway and Oren Zehner.

  3. The issue with the club name was discussed and a motion was made to retain the original name, The Northeastern Oklahoma Woodturner’s Association as the club’s official name.  The club will also use (WNEO) Woodturner’s of Northeastern Oklahoma for promotional purposes, i.e. business cards, banners and the club web site.  The motion was made by Larry Anderson and approved by the board.

  4. A motion was made and approved to purchase additional green wood sealer.

  5. We are looking for an event coordinator for the up coming May picnic, we need a couple of volunteers.
