President's Message

From the President October 2007
Welcome to our club.
I use “our club” with reservations. It is really
your club in that it will be only as good as you want it to be. There
are a lot of hard working members who have volunteered for various duties (check
the Committees List on the web site). The challenge I have for all is to get
involved. There are still positions to fill. It is fun and will help your club
become one of the best in the country.
Enough preaching. As you know we now have a new
“Permanent Temporary” meeting place at TIMCO, Guy Timmon’s place of
business. Check the web site for exact address and directions. Be sure to
thank Guy when you see him.
Because we no longer have the time constraints encountered
at other locations, we have started something new. Prior to each meeting a
lathe will be set up at 6:00pm and veteran turners will be there to answer any
question or help solve any turning problems that you might have encountered.
Send your requests via e-mail to me at
jorkthompson1@msn.com so that we can be prepared to field any specific
questions.
Our program committee has been working overtime to line up
some excellent master turners for the coming year. You can check out the
schedule on the web site. Our next turner is Mike Mahoney Master Bowl Turner.
Check him out on his web page (Bowlmakerinc.com). As a new member of NEOWTA,
Mike was the first demonstrator I saw. I can tell you he was one of the reasons
I am still turning today. He can cover the floor with shavings quicker than
anyone I had seen. So I set my sites on learning to do that too. Be sure to
mark your calendar for his demo November 17th.
Safe Turning
John Thompson
P.S. NEOWTA would like to
extend an open invitation to any member of neighboring clubs to attend any of
the Saturday demos. Check the web site for cost information.
SWAT update
If you are planning to attend the upcoming SWAT symposium, please donate some
of your time to help support SWAT.
