Late last year our club was informed of a young man, Sam Freeman, who has Multiple Dystrophy, a pacemaker and has difficulty standing. With mentoring from Bob Crane and woodturning classes from Lonnie Erwin, Sam developed a love for woodturning.

Thanks to the generosity of our club members Sam was provided with a mini lathe and tools. He wrote to me recently to thank us and share photos of some of his work.

"Just would like to tell you thank you for the donation of the Wood Lathe, Chisels and accessories. My name is Sam, I am 29 years old and have been living with MD for my whole life. I like to think of myself as a artist in every sense of the word, Computer graphics, Pen and Ink and making T-Shirts. One of my newest loves that I have found is making wood bowls and things. I had been doing reading upon reading, to see what it would take to get me to be able to try this wood turning journey. Kind of an expensive hobby to get into when your on disability, just trying to make ends meet is hard enough.. But Thanks to you I have been taking a few classes and things are going quite well for me. Just wanted to let you know how thankful I am. It was a very generous thing and words can't express my thanks to you."

Thank You

Sam Freeman

In late December, Bob Crane contacted Tim Yoder while searching for an inexpensive lathe and tools for Sammy Freeman of Bartlesville. Sammy suffers from Muscular Dystrophy, heart problems, and depression. Sammy's strong interest in woodturning was fueled by free lessons given by Lonnie Erwin.

Sammy's situation was relayed to the club by Tim, and immediately offers were made to donate lathes and tools. Larry Anderson modified a Record Power mini lathe, donated by Marc Schreiber, to use quick release handles instead of allen screws in the tool rest and tailstock. Jim Orton donated a set of chrome-vanadium tools in very good condition.

Bob Crane picked up the items from Bob Galloway in early March to deliver to Sammy and reported back that Sammy was very excited. Lonnie Erwin will continue to teach Sammy for free.

We wish Sammy good turnings, and thank all the club members who made this possible.

Two other lathes were donated by Sallie Crawford. One is a Carbotech, the other a model MC612 (don't know the brand). These need some TLC but might be candidates for other club donations to someone needy.

Anyone with suggested plans for these lathes should contact a board member or present their suggestion at a board meeting in person.

Vice President Bob Galloway

Welcome to the New Website!
As you might notice there have been some changes. Our website now reflects our club's original name. For a few months www.wneo.com will redirect to our new address www.neowta.com

The top page banner reads 'Northeastern Oklahoma Woodturners' only because I can't fit Association onto the page. At the bottom of each page you will see our full legal club name. If I can figure out how to cram the whole name into the flash animation at the top of the pages I will make the correction at that point.

While this site can be viewed with your screen resolution set at 600 x 400, it is best viewed with a setting of 800 x 600 or higher. This way you will see more information on the screen and won't have to scroll the pages up or down as much.

I have tried to keep the navigation straightforward for the site. If you look at the very top and bottom of the page you will see the navigation buttons. Click on them and you will be taken to the appropriate page.  The following is a description of the pages on our website.

Home: The home page lists dates, times and details about our next member and board meetings. Any other breaking news will be posted here.

What's New: You should visit this page after the home page to see what has changed on the site. There is an update time and date display at the top of the page to help you quickly assess if anything has changed since your last visit.

The only thing that won't appear on the 'What's New' page will be updates to the 'Home" page because most visitors will visit the home page first. The 'Home' page will also have an update time and date display at the top of the page.

Gallery: This page will contain links to all images relating to the club's 'Show & Tell', demonstrations, and events. In addition, any articles about demonstrations or events will be posted in the related galleries. New to the 'Gallery" page is the use of pop-up windows. When you click on a small image a window will pop up with a larger version of that image. You can still copy or print the image by 'right clicking' and choosing the correct option. Also, a pop-up window allows you to minimize the window so you can look at the image later. To close the image window click the 'close' button or just click on the 'X' in the upper right corner.

Calendar: Provides a comprehensive list of upcoming events. When necessary you will be able to link to another page with more information.

Articles and Tips: Contains articles and tips, written by our members or guests, relating to woodturning or woodworking subjects.

For Sale or Trade: Items to be sold or traded will be listed here and divided into three sections. First will be items sold by the club, second will be items sold or traded by our members and the last section will list nonmembers and businesses listing items for sale or trade.

Club Info: You will find links to the President's newsletter, board minutes, turning instructors, and the club library.

Contact: Our club officers and their contact information will be posted here. Committee members will also be listed.
