Learn To Turn Class<\/strong><\/h2>\n

All Learn To Turn classes are open to the public. We have a maximum of 10 and a minimum of 5 students per class. You will receive a lot of individual attention. Classes are conducted on an ad hoc basis and scheduled once we have the minimum of 5 students enrolled.  <\/span>Classes are conducted on two consecutive Saturdays.

Outline of classes<\/p>\n

Day 1 Morning<\/b><\/p>\n

Introduction to the Lathe, Personal Safety Techniques, Equipment, Tools, Holding Tools, Body Position, Habits.<\/p>\n

Learning to cut small beads and coves.<\/p>\n

Tools: Roughing Gouge, Parting tool, 3\/8\u201d Spindle Gouge or 3\/8\u201d, Bowl Gouge.<\/p>\n

Project: Beads & Coves<\/p>\n

Day 1 Afternoon<\/b><\/p>\n

Review of Safe Procedures, Holding tools, Body Position.<\/p>\n

Cutting larger, smoother, beads and coves. <\/span><\/p>\n

Tools: Roughing Gouge, Parting Tool, 3\/8 or 1\/2\u201d Spindle or Bowl Gouges.<\/p>\n

Projects: Make a Christmas Tree.  <\/span>Make a honey dipper.<\/p>\n

Day 2 Morning<\/b><\/p>\n

Review of Safe Procedures<\/p>\n

Platter design, shaping, making smooth cuts.<\/p>\n

Tools: Same as Class 1 and 2 + round nose or bowl scraper <\/span><\/p>\n

Project: Make a small platter\u2014additional methods to attach wood to the lathe.<\/p>\n

Day 2 Afternoon<\/b><\/p>\n

Review of Safety. Review of cuts.<\/p>\n

Project:  <\/span>Turning a Small bowl from green wood - Additional methods to attach wood to the lathe<\/p>\n

Class Information<\/b><\/p>\n

1. All Learn To Turn classes are open to the public. Attendance is limited to 10 participants. Classes are filled by order of registration. <\/span><\/p>\n

2. We conduct four class sessions over two consecutive Saturdays.<\/p>\n

3. All classes are in the NEOWTA (Heated and air-conditioned) classroom at 10117 E 50th Street in Tulsa. Attendees will utilize one of our full sized  <\/span>lathes. All materials, including wood, a full assortment of hand tools, turning chucks, miscellaneous equipment and personal instruction for the class will be furnished.   <\/span><\/p>\n

4. The cost to attend a class is $50 per session. This is very inexpensive as wood turning classes go<\/b>. The costs are low as a result of our public outreach.<\/b> The full cost for all four classes is $200 and is payable and required to complete class registration. All materials, equipment and instruction are included.   <\/span><\/p>\n

5. Classes are conducted from 8:30 to 4:00 on the scheduled Saturdays.<\/p>\n

6. The instructors are Master turners and will demonstrate each step prior to student practice.  <\/span><\/p>\n

7. SAFETY<\/b> is emphasized through out all classes.  <\/span>We want you to go home with something that you make, not a lump or cut.<\/p>\n

8. Students are expected to clean up their work stations at the end of each days sessions.<\/p>\n

9. Our teaching techniques continue to evolve and improve based on feedback from previous students and advances in wood turning.  <\/span>We want our students to be comfortable as you learn the art of wood turning.<\/p>\n

People who have taken the class previously have appreciated the instructors and the feeling of confidence they have gained from the experience.  <\/span>Even if you have had some self taught experience, it is likely that you will benefit from this class. You will not have to incorporate and overcome bad habits.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Wood turning can be a fun and stimulating hobby.<\/p>\n
